There are over 100 acute hospitals in Switzerland.
Not all hospitals offer the same treatments, the same quality or the same costs.
The Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (BAG/OFSP/UFSP/FOPH) and the National Association for Quality Development in Hospitals and Clinics (ANQ) examine the quality of various treatments at each hospital each year.
Features of treatment quality for a given hospital are, for example:
Number of cases treated
Patient satisfaction
Wound infection rate
Mortality rate
Length of stay in the hospital
In addition, the institute B,S,S. Economic Consultants, on behalf of CONCORDIA, evaluates these quality characteristics along with the costs. This neutral and independent evaluation is based on anonymised data from several years. This results in an overall rating for selected treatments from all Swiss acute hospitals. If the assessment takes costs into account, it is always the quality of care that determines the outcome.
